Chat Window

When you first load the applet, the first screen you see is the Chat Window:

The Chat Window contains a message input field, labeled Message. You use this field to type messages to send to other users in the current channel. The window also contains a message window. There are three different message windows:

Window

Purpose

Main

All messages in the current channel display in this window, including user, system, and error messages. System messages usually appear enclosed by << >> brackets.

Whispers/Pal

This window displays messages that are “whispered” either to or from you, or from a user listed as your “Pal”.

Chat

This window displays only messages that are exchanged between you and a specific chat-partner. You can request to chat with a user by typing chat <username> in the message input field. If the user responds positively to the chat request, you are automatically brought to the Chat window.
A user can also request to chat with you. You will receive a message from Worldgroup indicating that this user would like to chat with you. Type chat <username> to engage in Chat. Type X in the message input field to terminate a chat.

Type a URL into any of the message display areas, and it is highlighted and can be clicked on to launch the particular URL in another browser instance.

All message windows support unlimited session scroll-back unless the font is modified.

You can switch between any of the message windows at any time. The chat window, when chat is not activated, will not allow you to enter a message. You can access and submit messages in the other two message windows while in chat, however.
